How a lesson goes

A lesson at your pool

A lesson is thirty minutes. The instructor gets in the water with the swimmer, works on one or two skills at the swimmer's pace, and talks with the adult on the deck at the end. A session is six weeks, with one or two lessons a week.

  • Private lessons, or semi-private for swimmers who share one

  • An instructor in the water with every swimmer

  • An adult from your family on the deck

Inside a lesson

What happens in thirty minutes

  1. 01

    Step 1: Arrive and check

We arrive a few minutes early and walk the gate and the deck with the adult. The swimmer says hello from the steps.

  2. 02

Step 2: Get in and settle

The instructor gets in first and the swimmer follows by the steps, at their own pace, to the shallow end.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Practice

One or two skills from the swimmer's level, such as blowing bubbles, floating with support or kicking from the wall.

  4. 04

Step 4: Dry off and talk

The swimmer gets out by the steps and into a towel. The instructor tells the adult what went well and what comes next.

For every age

Children, teens and adults

  • Children

Ages 4 to 12. Lessons are short, playful and built from the same few skills each evening, so a swimmer knows what comes next.

  • Teens

Ages 13 to 17. Teens often want one stroke or one skill, and a private lesson at home lets them ask without a crowd on the deck.

  • Adults

Ages 18 and up. From the shallow end to smoother laps, at the pace the swimmer sets. Adults can book in the same evening hours.

What a swimmer brings

A towel, goggles if you like, and a swim shirt

We bring the boards and the noodles. The swimmer brings what is easy to wear and easy to dry.

  • A swim shirt is welcome in every lesson

  • A towel for each swimmer

  • Goggles, if the swimmer likes them

  • A cap or a hair tie for long hair
